Hardware

Many hours were spent on the design and construction of the PCB.  The placement of components were paramount.  Keeping the traces as short as possible yet equal length to one another ensured minimal signal losses and heating.

Surface Mount Components

All of our surface mount components were meticulously placed by hand on soldering paste.  The PCB was then placed into a Vapour Deposition chamber at a high heat in order to be permanently installed.

Component Placement

After the surface mount components were installed the through-hole items were placed and test fit before soldering into place.

Precision
Soldering

LeafTech team has high reliability soldering skills which was implemented for all of the through-hole components on our PCB.

Pressure Fitting

To handle our high currents we have eleven different pressure fit connectors.

Eight connectors allow the two copper bus bars for the DC current to be mounted

Three connectors are for the output from the board to the motor.

Thermal Analysis

With high currents comes high temperature. To combat this, we integrated a water cooled heat sink into the design and performed thermal analysis with a FLIR camera during testing
